BONGAIGAON: The Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Chatte Pandurang, Indian Revenue Service, as Expenditure Observer for monitoring the register of election expenditure of all contesting candidates of 32 Bongaigaon LAC constituency.

Shantanu Mukherjee, candidate of Political Justice Party, failed to produce his election Expenditure Registers during the scheduled inspection on March 27 and on April 1. He neither appeared in the observation process himself nor sent any of his representatives in the observation process on both days. He has again been directed to produce his Expenditure Register on April 4 without fail. For neglecting the official matter, the Returning Officer of the constituency, Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya has issued a showcause notice to him under Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act.

As per the election rules, each candidate has to submit the account of his campaign expenses to the Election Observer from time-to-time. If the candidate does not appear on the next date of inspection i.e. 4th April,2021 , action will be taken against him under Section 171-1 of the Indian Penal Code.
