Sivasagar DISHA Meet Concludes, Various Schemes Reviewed

GAURISAGAR: Chairing the concluding day’s sessions of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting on Saturday, Member of Parliament for Jorhat HPC, Tapon Kumar Gogoi reviewed the status and progress of schemes of various departments such as, Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Irrigation, Soil Conservation, Forest (Territorial and Social Forestry), Tourism and Cultural.

Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa co-chaired the meeting held at the Sukafa Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sivasagar. Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, Dr. S Lakshmanan was also present in the meeting. During the meeting, the chairman announced that a massive cleaning drive would be carried out soon in the Yamunas around the Sivasagar tank and efforts would be put in to make them tourist hotspots. He also stated that no construction by any government department would be allowed in the Yamuna's. Co-chairman Tasa suggested the Health Department to carry out massive awareness drive in the tea-garden areas and in remote areas about various life-threatening diseases. He also opined carrying out an intensive drive against production, sale and consumption of illicit liquor in the district. The meeting also discussed at length about various aspects of human-animal conflict and possible measures to address the issue. Both the chairman and co-chairman stressed carrying out massive plantation drive by the Forest Department. The meeting further resolved that Irrigation, Agriculture and Soil Conservation department should work in proper coordination so that the farmers receive maximum benefit of the government schemes.

The chairman also directed that coordination between Tourism, Cultural and Archaeology department should be further strengthened and these departments should implement their schemes in a collaborated manner to place the district in the World Heritage Site map. Before culmination, the meeting condoled the demise of former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and observed one minute’s silence for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The meeting was attended by the president of Sivasagar Zila Parishad, Dhrubajyoti Mout, District Development Commissioner Joonmoni Sonowal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Bidit Das and heads of various development departments.

In the DISHA meeting held on Friday, the chairman discussed in length about the status of various ongoing schemes in the district such as, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) and National Old Age Pension (NOAP).

Besides these, status of various schemes under Education department, Social Welfare department, Municipal area schemes, DDMA programmes, PWD (PMGSY), NHIDCL, State Roads and Rural Roads division, PHE department (Water supply and Rural Sanitation), Food and Civil Supplies, Revenue department (Computerization of land records), APDCL, DDUGJY and Town and Country Planning were also discussed in depth.

The chairman stressed proper and speedy implementation of all the ongoing schemes of the district. The meeting was attended by the MLA of Thowra Kushal Dowari, MLA of Amguri, Pradip Hazarika, president of Zila Parishad, Dhrubajyoti Mout and DISHA District Development Commissioner Joonmoni Sonowal.
