Six ULFA (I) Militants Apprehended at Lekhapani in Tinsukia District

TINSUKIA: Close on the heels of the surrender of two hardcore ULFA militants on Wednesday at Lekhapani in Tinsukia district, as many as six more cadres fell into the police dragnet at Margherita and Pengree on Friday. The number of militants either captured or surrendered since March 2019 in Tinsukia district alone mounted to 38, which includes two NSCN cadres and a KLO cadre. The security forces carried out operations in Margherita and Pengree on Friday and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.

According to reports, based on a specific input received by Tinsukia district police regarding presence of ULFA (I) cadre in Margherita area, a joint search operation was launched, led by Tinsukia Police, (inclusive of 210 Cobra bn, 68 Bn CrPF) with 9 Rajrif/3 Garhwal and 21 PARA SF. After relentless efforts, four hardcore militants laid their arms and surrendered. Based on their information, the forces conducted another operation at the Tekri area under Pengree PS and apprehended two ULFA (I) cadres with arms.

The surrendered militants are SS Second Lt Pabitro Asom alias, Phamen Moran (Jan 2010) and Cpl Aluk Asom alias Mintu Moran (April 2017) of Kakopathar, LC Merchant Asom alias Pranjit Moran (2017) of Jokaisuk Baghjan, LC Abon Asom alias Rajib Moran (2017) of Bishnupur Doomdooma, Cpl Sonjuk Asom alias Milan Jyoti Mohanto (2010) of Hathijan Barekuri and L Cpl Puron Asom alias Kolyan Boruah (2017) of Sukani Makum.

The arms and ammunition recovered from their procession are 6 AK series rifles (4 MQ 81 and 2 AK 56), 395 rounds of live ammunition, 13 magazines and two hand grenades.
