SARUPATHAR: It has been more than four years since the construction work of the Deopani RCC bridge at Sarupathar Padumoni on the outskirts of Sarupathar started but the bridge is yet to be completed. The construction of the 90-metre long RCC bridge over Dhansiri River started in 2015 but the slow pace of work has caused much resentment among people. The people of Deopani Parghat alleged that the construction work was moving at a snail’s pace and in absence of the bridge, they were facing immense hardship in crossing the river.

“In the rainy season, people risk their lives to cross the river in overcrowded boats. If anyone avoids crossing the river in boats, he or she has to cover a long distance and cross the river through the Dhansiri bridge at Barpathar via Santipur and Silonijan. If the Deopani bridge comes up soon, it will be a lifeline for us,” said some people of Deopani Parghat. The construction of the RCC bridge was initiated at an estimated cost of Rs 8.50 crore.
