Sontosh Hojai murder: Two Assam police constables arrested in Haflong

HAFLONG: In connection with the kidnapping and killing of Sontosh Hojai, two Assam Police constables -Bipul Laskar and Sankar Bania -- were arrested by the CID on Sunday. This was informed by Uttam Langthasa, president of All Dimasa Students' Union, District Committee.

Both the constables were the PSOs of then DSP, Surjya Kanta Moran who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and killing of Sontosh Hojai, an established businessman at Harangajao.

Sontosh Hojai was kidnapped from his residence on April 24th at a time when the entire nation was under total lockdown due to COVID-19.His half burnt body was recovered by the NH-54 near Langting about 100 km from Harangajao.

Thereafter several organizations and civil societies even following the COVID protocol agitated for the justice for the people of DimaHasao and the family of late Hojai. People also approached the High Court for impartial enquiry and justice following which the CID was entrusted for task. People began to lose confidence in police administration due to such inaction but the arrest of two constables who are the PSOs of the then DSP, Surjya Kanta Moran has brought some relief to them.

Reacting to the arrest of two constables Langthasa appreciated the CID and others who are concerned with the matter and wanted justice for the family of late Hojai and for the people of Dima Hasao as a whole otherwise people would lose confidence on administration. He also hoped that justice would definitely be there and all the culprits involved in the heinous crime would be put behind the bar soon.
