KOKRAJHAR: The National Service Scheme (NSS), a unit of Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar (CIT-K) organized a special camp at Khagrabari village, Bonargaon, one of the adopted villages of CIT Kokrajhar, from November 27 which will conclude on Friday.

The special camp was organized with the theme 'Knowing the Village'. The special camp was launched and inaugurated at Khagrabari LP School on November 27. On the second day, the volunteers did gardening and planted flower saplings in the school campus at the village. On the third day, the NSS volunteers went to the village and took part in harvesting rice in the paddy field.

Susmita Roy, NSS Programme Officer, along with the Monideepa Brahma, Assistant Professor, Department of HSS, and Dipankar Sutradhar, Assistant Professor, Department of IE, took part in the event. To encourage the volunteers, Chaitali Brahma, Registrar, and J D Herembeswar Basumatary, NSS Programme Coordinator, too went to the field and joined hands in harvesting paddy. The village headman of the Khagrabari village and headmaster of the Khagrabari LP School guided the volunteers in the field. The Registrar said it was a very special experience and the volunteers should be engaged in various activities which have a two-way impact.

Young student volunteers get an opportunity to learn and experience the village life and the villagers have an opportunity to educate the younger generation. Some of the activities of the special camp as scheduled were campaigns against drugs, visiting the villages house-to-house and interacting with the villagers, colouring the boundary wall of the Khagrabari LP School.

The NSS CIT is committed to work for the development of the surrounding area. Programme Coordinator, NSS-CIT Kokrajhar, thanked the NSS Regional Directorate Guwahati and Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, Guwahati for continuous support and encouragement. He also thanked Prof. TG Sitaram, Director IIT Guwahati, and Director CIT -Additional Charge, for his encouragement and support.
