Statue of Bhupen Hazarika unveiled at Udalguri

UDALGURI: A statue of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was unveiled at Udalguri Sahitya Sabha Bhavan by BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary and Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi, the president of Axam Xahitya Xabha at a function. The metal statue of the music maestro was constructed by renowned sculptor Biren Singh. Mohilary announced that the BTC government would construct such statues of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in Baksa, Chirang and Kokrajhar. He urged the people to maintain peace and normalcy in the region. State PHE Minister Rihon Daimary released the souvenir published to mark the celebration. Gautamjyoti Talukdar was the president and Akhil Kalita the general secretary of the statue construction committee and it was constructed with the help of public donation.

Biren Singh, Samar Hazarika and Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi also addressed the meeting. Earlier, the flag of Axam Xahitya Xabha was hoisted by Binapani Devi, the president of Udalguri unit AXX, followed by tribute to martyrs by Pramod Baishya. The song Manuhe Manuhar Babe was sung by various ethnic community people on the occasion. The meeting was also attended by Charan Boro, Mazbat MLA, and Ripen Daimary, Bhairabkunda MCLA, among other distinguished persons.
