MANGALDAI, July 11: With a noble intention of providing a scope for exposure, capacity building and career building to rural students through close interaction with senior bureaucrats, academicians and experts in their respective fields, the Darrang district administration, in cooperation with Samagra Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), organized a ‘Students Carnival’ for the first time in the district.

With the participation of 150 students from 30 rural schools and 15 teachers as mentors, the three-day long residential carnival was ceremonially inaugurated at Mangaldai College on Wednesday morning.

Inaugurating the carnival amidst a festive and colourful atmosphere, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman urged the students to concentrate only on learning and to respect their parents and teachers. “The classroom is not the only place for learning, we can learn great lessons by minutely observing Mother Nature,” said Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman.

Taking part in the interaction with the students, Professor of Economics at Sam Houston State University in USA, Dr. Hiranya Kumar Nath narrated his success story and how he reached America from a remote village in Darrang district without even having good command over the English language. Making a reference to the famous quote of former President Dr APJ Kalam, Dr. Nath appealed to the students to dream in reality, rather than in deep slumber to achieve their goal.

A young teacher of repute, Uttam Teron of Parijat Academy at Pamohi in Guwahati, who earned laurels for his involvement in education, narrated his real-life experience in bringing a change in the education sector and laid stress on the need of extra-curricular activities for the students.
