TEZPUR: During the lockdown period, an online five-day Faculty Development Programme was organized by the Department of Commerce, Tezpur University during May 11 to May 15. Around 186 faculty members teaching in the domain of commerce and management from different States of the country as well as abroad were shortlisted.

On an average, more than 150 participants actively participated in all the days. Each day, one session (during 11 am to 1 pm) on a contemporary topic was scheduled which was delivered by eminent speakers Dr. Anil Rao Paila, Senior Dean, Wellingkar Institute of Management, Bangalore campus, spoke on 'Business Education: Education: building your competence in the GIG economy', Vijay Kapur, former Director of Studies, Institute of Chartered Accountant of India on 'Potential Financial Reporting and Audit Challenges due to COVID-19', Dr. Rohit Dwivedi, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong on 'Post covidian Normal for Work and Organizations', Dr. K Ramesha, Director Indian Institute of Bank Management (IIBM), Guwahati on the 'Amalgamation of Public Sector Banks in India' and on the last day, Dr. Shantanu Kumar Ghosh, Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Burdwan on 'Trajectory of CSR: The Contemporary Narratives'.

The speakers could mesmerize the participants with the content as well as with their presentation styles. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Papori Baruah, Dean, School of Management Sciences, Tezpur University. She emphasized organizing such programmes in a crisis period like this for the benefit of the teaching faculty. The inaugural address was delivered by Manash Sharma, a veteran banking and IT professional from Dubai who discussed on the business strategies and challenges during the current crisis.

The valedictory address was given by Prof. Vinod Kumar Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University, who emphasized the need for adjustment in the outlook of teachers in the light of the changed circumstances. He talked about restructuring education programme in the light of Learning Outcome-based Curriculum Framework (LOCF), designing of vocational courses and strengthening of infrastructure for effective delivery of e-contents. He also encouraged the participants to carry research in the areas of changes brought in by the COVID-19 crisis.

The programme was conceived and organized by the Department of Commerce, Tezpur University led by Prof. Subhrangshu Sekhar Sarkar, Professor, Department of Business Administration, Tezpur University and currently heading the Department of Commerce of the University.
