MORIGAON: The All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU), Tiwa Yuba Chatra Parishad (TYCP), All Tiwa Protection Committee (ATPC), All Tiwa Woman Society (ATWS), Morigaon District Tribal Sangha (MDTS), Tiwa Sahitya Sabha (TSS) and Autonomous Demand Committee (ADC) have strongly opposed the State Capital Region Development Authority (SCRDA) Act.

In a press meet, the leaders of organizations said that the objective of the act was to wipe away the existence of the south Kamrup tribal belt as well as the seven tribal belts of Morigaon district. The State Capital Region Development Authority Act has included 268 villages under Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) and three revenue circles that hints at making the Tiwa Autonomous Council powerless, they said.

They further alleged that the tribal belts had been under surveillance of the capitalists of outsiders. On the other hand, the process of land acquisition by outsiders in the tribal belts was possible due to the violation of the land act by some ministers as well as some officers of the State.

“The Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government has been trying to hand over the tribal belt land to the capitalists. The State Capital Region Development Authority Act has been prepared based on the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Act. It will make the tribal community people as well as the indigenous people living in the tribal belts landless. Tiwa organizations will stage a protest in front of the DC’s office on September 20. We demand that the SCRDA Act should be scrapped,” said the leaders of the organizations.
