Train hits youth at Singimari area in Jogighopa

BONGAIGAON: A youth died in an accident when a train ran over him at the Singimari area in Jogighopa on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Hitesh Ray (27), son of Moeswar Ray, a resident of Singimari Majpara area under Abhayapuri Police Station of Bongaigaon district.

The IC (In-Charge) of GRP (Government Railway Police), Jogighopa said that they received information about the accident from the Railway Station Master of Jogighopa at midnight. "The Station Master was officially informed by the on-duty patrol man. Our team immediately moved to the spot at the Singimari area just near the railway track; and recovered the body.

"There were several injuries on the head, leg, hand and stomach. We sent the body for postmortem and registered a case in this regard today. It is suspected that he may have been hit by a train while crossing the track," he said.

Meanwhile, the residents of Hitesh Ray's village have appealed to the government for compensation to members of the deceased's family.
