JORHAT: Election campaign by various political parties has gained momentum in Jorhat, Majuli, Titabor, Mariani and Teok. The culture of removing one party’s posters, hoardings and party flags in the rural and sub-rural areas of Jorhat, Mariani and Titabor has irked the candidates as poll expenditure is likely to get doubled due to this. Moreover, complaints about each other in various police stations is also gaining momentum, said a candidate from the Baghchung Gram Panchayat who had lodged an FIR in Lichubari Outpost after his posters were allegedly removed by Congress workers.

It is expected to be a triangular contest between the BJP, AGP and Congress in Jorhat. Voters are slamming the saffron party for no development in the past three years and have even pointed out the closure of the two paper mills in Barak Valley and Jagiroad, said Krishna Das, the district Congress committee general secretary.

“In all the 446 panchayat and Zila Parishad seats, the BJP will win and I am very confident as the nation is on the way towards development under the able leadership of Narendra Modiji,” said Shantanu Pujari, the BJP president on Thursday.
