Tribute to Ujjala Barman

Glowing tributes were paid to Ujjala Barman, a pious and magnanimous woman, who passed away at the age of 82 at her Haflong residence. She spent a long spell of her life at Malugram house of this town and became intimate with the neighbours for her amiable and friendly nature. Her younger daughter Nirmali Barman is a senior most teacher of Philosophy at Assam University and a special invitee to the Governing Body of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

Recalling the memorable days with her mother, Nirmali Barman paid her homage to her in these words, "a mother understands what a child does not say. She breathed her last at the residence of her elder daughter Dr Dipali Barman. Even though at Haflong, I felt she was always with me with whom I could share my feelings and emotions of the best and not so best days. She taught me how to live an altruistic life without being self concentrated.

From my mother I learnt the difference between right and wrong. Her smiling face, simplicity and gentility left an indelible impression on my mind and I will forever cherish her memories. Someone has rightly said, 'the grief of losing near and dear one is like ocean, it comes in waves, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm and sometimes, it is overwhelming. All we can do is to learn to swim. And I know she is in her heavenly abode, at the lotus feet of The Mother and Hrishi Aurobindo."

– Dr Nirmali Barman
