DIBRUGARH: According to sources, the army arrested two most wanted NSCN (I-M) militants from an area under Malu Gaon Police Station, Ledo in Tinsukia district on Tuesday.

The arrested militants were later identified as self-styled Colonel Hathun alias Jony and Kochunog Sangkei. The army recovered one 9 mm and one .22 pistol, besides 18 rounds of live ammunition, two magazines and a bag containing Rs 10,000 from their possession.

According to Army sources, both arrested militants were involved in murder, kidnapping and extortion activities along the Assam-Arunachal border areas from a long time. Meanwhile, the army and police of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have stepped up their vigilance against militant activities in the region following rise in terrorist activities as well as enrolment of new cadres in respective militant groups.
