TANGLA: In a bizarre incident, a Sub-Inspector rank police officer posted at the Panery PS of Udalguri allegedly committed suicide on Friday morning by shooting himself in his quarter. The deceased in his late fifties identified as Sukumar Talukdar, shot himself with his 9 mm service pistol, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer, (SDPO) Bhergaon, Nirmal Ghosh. He further added that prima-facie it appears to be case of suicide but investigations are on. Sources divulged that the officer who was known to be sincere and dedicated in his work was the second in charge of the police station and had shot one round which pierced through his head.

The deceased, a resident of Chamata of Nalbari district, is survived by two daughters and wife. His body was later retrieved in presence of a magistrate and sent for post-mortem at Udalguri Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile police have registered a case and are investigating into the matter. Pertinently, on March 14, 2017 a constable of 3rd APBN ,Ramen Borah, 38 posted at the Panery PS allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service INSAS rifle in the barrack room.
