Unconditional apology from Badruddin Ajmal demanded by Tinsukia journalist association

TINSUKIA: Demanding unconditional apology from AIUDF President-cum-MP Badruddin Ajmal for his unsavoury conduct against a press reporter and further attempting to assult him physically at Hatsinghimari South Salmara at a press meet, the Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA), an affiliate of AUWJ observed a silent protest rally from Court Tiniali to Tinsukia DC office and submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner seeking his immediate intervention.

The memo urged the President of India to initiate legal and necessary action against the MP and to enact Journalist Security Act to ensure sanctity and security of fourth pillar of democracy.

Dibrugarh: Hundreds of media persons here came out vociferously on Thursday against the reported abusive behaviour meted out by MP as well as AIUDF Chief, Badruddin Ajmal to a mediaperson at Hatisingimari in South Salmara district recently. In a clear sign of protest, the media community took out a protest rally from Thanacharali to the DC office at Chowkidinghee, and later submitted memoranda to the Prime Minster and Chief Minister through the DC against the impropriety displayed by a people’s representative to someone representing the fourth pillar of democracy.

The protesting media fraternity, which included members from Greater Dibrugarh Press Club, Dibrugarh Press Club, Assam State Journalist Union, Dibrugarh Electronic Media Forum and many other organisations, slammed the incident, besides demanding his resignation as well as legal action against him. Speaking to The Sentinel, Senior Journalist and Former President of All Assam Journalists’ Union, Ikbal Ahmed observed, “It’s extremely unfortunate that a representative of the people and the chief of a recognised political party used expletives and derogatory words for a media person. Being an MP, that was the last thing he could do. I consider this unsavoury act as the beginning of his downfall.”

GAURISAGAR: Assam Press Correspondent’s Union (APCU), Sivasagar District Committee has strongly condemned All India Democratic Front (AIUDF) Supremo and Dhrubri MP Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal for his misbehaviour and abusive words. APCU Sivasagar District Committee demanded unconditional apologies of Badaruddin Ajmal. They threatened to file an FIR at Sivasagar Sadar Police Station. Other media organizations of the district like Sivasagar Zila Gramya Sangbadik Santha, Sivasagar District Correspondence Union, Gaurisagar Press Club, Jhanji Press Club have strongly condemned and opined that it is a threat to the democracy. They urged the State government to initiate legal inquiry into the matter.
