Kokrajhar: United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) on Thursday expressed concern over the use of names of some icons of the Bodos, including Father of the Bodos-UN Brahma, for political purposes.
Talking to this correspondent, the president of the UBPO, Mihiniswar Basumatary said he was deeply hurt to see the photos of great literary figures of the Bodos like Brajendra Kr Brahma, who was former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), former president of the same literary body, Bineswar Brahma, as well as Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma in the song for political campaign via social media and web portals by UPPL party. He said the use of names of these three stalwarts who had relentlessly worked for the unity and development of Bodo language, literature and traditions and to take the Bodos to new heights, in political campaign was unfortunate and regrettable.
Basumatary said the three icons of the Bodos had no connection with any political party but had worked hard to unite all the Bodo groups when they were alive. Using their names in political campaign was totally inappropriate. He appealed to political parties not to use the names and photos of great figures of the Bodos who had no link with political parties, during political campaign.
