Vast areas in Tinsukia district submerged by flood due to incessant rains

DOOMDOOMA: Due to incessant rains in catchment areas for last few days; most of the rivers in Tinsukia district are in spate and the flood waters have submerged larger areas of Saikhowa, Hapjan and Tinsukia Mauza. According to Circle Officer, Pankaj Nagbongshi 39 villages have been inundated in Doomdooma Revenue Circle. To help the flood victims, the district administration has opened three relief camps in Doomdooma Revenue Circle and another three in Tinsukia revenue circle. Brahmaputra is flowing almost at danger level (DL) of 127.29 metre (the danger level being 128.30 metre) at Dhola at 4 pm on Friday. The water level of other rivers of the district are Na-Dihing at Sumoni 136.52 metre (DL 137 metre), Kundil river at Chapakhowa 132.52 metre (DL 133.60 metre), Doomdooma river at Doomdooma 118.91 metre ( DL 123.72 metre), Burhi Dining at Margherita 135.49 metre ( DL 134.42 metre), Tirap river at Mulong (Ledo) 138.12 metre (DL 139.56 metre). Already thousands of people are reeling under flood and if there is no let up of rain in coming days the above-mentioned rivers will flow above danger level submerging even larger areas in its vicinity. According to a late report received here a bamboo bridge over Ghormora river in Dichoigaon in Sadiya Sub-division was washed away by surging flood water on Friday. The administration arranged boats for maintaining uninterrupted transportation in the area.
