TINSUKIA: For the villagers of Himanta Tengapani Gaon, a river island village under Hanhkhati Gaon Panchyat in Tinsukia district and close to Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district, basic amenities have been a far cry since the village was declared a revenue village in 1990.

At a press meet organized by Himanta Tengapani Yaba Sangha in the village on Thursday, the villagers vent their ire on the State Government for its apathetic attitude and threatened to merge with Arunachal Pradesh located on the other side of the road, a State having good communication, health care and electricity facilities.

The mode of communication to the village is the dinghy boat that ferries people across Noa-Dihing River. Bounded by three sides by water bodies and vast Jankhonda Beel, the villagers have been deprived of education, proper road communication, central schemes and kerosene oil. The press meet held with Jiten Moran in the chair and attended by gaon burahs of Champa Gaon, Simanta Tengapani Gaon and host of other local leaders from AMSU, the speakers alleged that the local administration never paid any attention to their grievances despite several representations.
