Watch CCTV Footage | Biker Hits Woman from Behind in Digboi

Digboi: In a major road crash, a woman was severely injured after a speedy motorcycle rider suddenly hits her from the rear end at Jasoda Tiniali Road in oil town Digboi on Thursday, both the woman and the motorcycle rider were immediately shifted to Dibrugarh’s Sankardev Nursing Home in a critical condition.

As per the CCTV footage, the woman was seen heading towards Jasoda Hall, when the speeding pulsar motorcycle bearing no AS 23R 6093 banged her from the backside.

Sources informed that the injured woman was identified as Deepa Phukan and the motorcyclist was identified as Raj Phukan.

Meanwhile, a case was lodged against the motorcyclist Raj by the family members of the Deepa Phukan. The case was lodged at Digboi Police Station (Case No 171/19) under section 279/338 of the Indian Penal Code.

Section 279 in the Indian Penal Code

Rash driving or riding on a public way.—Whoever drives any vehicle, or rides, on any public way in a manner so rash or negligent as to endanger human life, or to be likely to cause hurt or injury to any other person, shall be punished with im­prisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.

Section 338 in the Indian Penal Code

Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others.—Whoever causes grievous hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, or the personal safety of others, shall be punished with impris­onment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.
