Week-long programme to celebrate Kargil Vijay Divas in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Kargil Vijay Divas is celebrated on July 26 every year in honour of the Kargil War heroes. The day is celebrated as a day of sacrifice and victory by the braves of our country.

All the ranks of 72 Assam Girls (Independent) Coy NCC, North Lakhimpur, led by Officer Commanding Colonel Jasbir Singh Cheema, has been celebrating the event every year. The unit and all colleges and schools spread over the districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji are celebrating the event this year as a Homage Week from July 20 to July 26.

The week-long events included drawing competition, slogan writing competition and speech competition. Due to the COVID-19 social distancing norms, this year the programme has been unique as the drawings and slogans were shared online. The speech competition, organized online on this occasion through Google Meet, was held on Friday to pay homage to the martyrs. It was attended by Colonel Jasbir Singh Cheema and other dignitaries.

The meeting started with homage to the martyrs by the Commanding Officer. It was followed by observing two minutes' silence to honour the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War. The cadets of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts took part in the speech competition on Kargil War. At the end of programme, the results of all competitions were announced.
