Women empowerment  in rural areas vital: CM

GOLAGHAT, June 22: Attending as the chief guest in the Mahila Samroh held at Samannay Kshetra in Golaghat, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Without women empowerment economic development in rural areas could never be expected. The future of children depend on the mothers; so it is very important to strengthen women power for a bright future of the State.” He further said that the women’s SHG in various village, char areas and urban areas of Assam will be covered under the government scheme named Kanaklata Mohila Sawolikoran Achoni. He said that first time women groups would get one-time financial assistance and further it would extend on skill basis. He also announce prizes of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 Lakh to SHGs that show best results. Sonowal also made announcement of sending farmers and women SHGs to foreign countries for experience and experiment in their respective fields.

The Mahila Samaroh, organised by the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission in cooperation with the district administration, witnessed more than fifteen thousand women from various self-help groups of Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency taking part. The Chief Minister distributed financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each to eligible women self-help groups under the Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Asoni to ensure financial independence among the beneficiaries.

Minister for Agriculture Atul Bora, Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, P&RD Minister (State) Naba Kumar Doley, Labour and Employment (State) Minister Pallab Lochan Das also attended the programme.
