Women’s body formed

Biswanath Chariali, May 20: A new women’s body - United Women’s Development Council, Assam was formed at a public meet held at Sahitya Sabha Bhavan, Biswanath Chariali for the uplift of the women of the State. The meeting was presided over by Deepa Hazarika. This was announced on Saturday at a press meet by the office- bearers of the newly-formed women’s body. The organization aims at all-round development of children and women, self-defense, economic uplift, self-dependence, health and hygiene of women and creating awareness against witch hunting and other social evils. The women’s body also expressed grave concern over the growing number of incidents of physical and mental torture on women and rape. The press meet was attended by Bagmita Borah, president, Chayanika Deka, general secretary, Manidipa Bose, working president.
