World Blood Donor Day observed

Bongaigaon, June 14: Chirang Army of Red Horns Division organized a blood donation camp on June 14 at Army Camp Kajalgaon. The initiative was taken by the Army on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day. Deputy Commissioner of Chirang inaugurated the event. The blood donation camp was organized in collaboration with the blood bank, Civil Hospital, Bongaigaon. A total of 210 volunteers participated in the camp.

Namrup: Along with other parts of the world, World Blood Donor Day was observed at Namrup MPHC on Thursday under the auspices of Namrup Mini PHC and in association with Naharani Block PHC. Coinciding with the current year’s theme ‘Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life’, an awareness session was held which was conducted by Jayanta Dutta, Health educator, Namrup MPHC, while Dr Bidyawati Sonowal, Senior Medical Officer, Naharani BPHC, graced the occasion as the resource person. Dr Sonowal in her speech spoke on the necessity of voluntary blood donation in the country where voluntary blood donation rate was very poor. She also spoke about the health benefits of blood donation. Besides, Jayanta Dutta in his speech urged the Asha workers and ANM nurses present in the session to encourage people to donate blood by removing all misconceptions that prevail among common people regarding blood donation. Mintu Sonowal, multipurpose worker, Naharkatia SD, advised the Asha workers to make a note of all the eligible blood donors in their operating villages and act as a bridge between the needy patients and voluntary blood donors. The awareness session was also followed by a grand awareness procession in the presence of Nasir Ali, ABPM, Namrup MPHC along with Asha workers and ANM nurses.

LAKHIMPUR: World Blood Donor Day was observed by the Blood Bank of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital (NLCH) in Lakhimpur district in association with the members of Team Humanity, a voluntary blood donor organization of the district, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) of Lilabari Airport and NHPC. An awareness rally was taken out with the participation of the NLCH Nursing Institution students led by Blood Bank in-charge Officer Dr. Rohini Kumar Borah and Tutor Putumai Saikia. It was followed by a public meeting which was chaired by Blood Bank Nodal Officer-cum-SDMO Dr. Nikhil Kakati who delivered an informative lecture elaborating the significance of the day. Dr. Anil Sonowal, the Superintendent of NLCH, also took part in the programme which was anchored by counsellor Champak Baruah. Dr. Kakati and Dr. Sonowal inaugurated the blood donation camp which was organized on the occasion. Fourteen members of Team Humanity, 5 from CISF and 9 from NHPC donated a total of 30 units blood to the NLCH Blood Bank on the day.

JORHAT: Over 30 units of blood were collected and donated to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital blood bank at a blood donation camp organized by Blood Bank, JMCH in association with Srimanta Sankardev Sangha at the headquarter premises of the Sangha on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day. This was followed by a meeting presided over by Dr. Nabin Chandra Gogoi and inaugurated by Dr. Velina Brahma from JMCH. During the day-long blood donation camp, members from Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Jorhat district unit and students’ union of Jaganath Barooah College and Jorhat Engineering College donated blood for patients of JMCH and for the armed forces personnel. The day was observed at four different venues in the district - at Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, and Assam Arakan Basin-ONGCL and at Mariani, Titabor and Teok - where donors assembled to donate blood on the occasion, said Dr. Rokhodhor Das of JMCH.
