7 Child Labourers Rescued In Cachar By District Task Force

SILCHAR: Days after the World Day Against Child Labour, the Cachar district administration led by DC Laya Madduri, is keeping close tabs on the employers of child labourers in Cachar district in order to achieve the goal of eradicating the menace from the country. The district task force against child labour conducted an inspection drive at Jalalpur and Kalain areas on June 14. The team rescued 7 children from different dhabas, restaurants and garages of the said areas.

The children were rescued from Maa Kali Hotel owned by Amitab Deb, Abdul Engineering owned by Abdul Ali of Kalain, Drishti sweets and Restaurant owned by Dhiraj Das of Kalain, Utram Auto Works owned by Gautam Dey and a small tea stall in Jalalpur owned by Pulak Das. Post-rescue, FIRs have been lodged in the Katigorah police station. The Childline Silchar, later on, took them to the Children Home for temporary shelter from where they will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The CWC in consultation with the Labour Welfare Department will do counseling and further investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that under the existing provisions of Child and Adolescent Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act 1986, if the employers are convicted, then they have to serve a jail term of not less then 6 months which may extend up to 2 years or will be fined not less than Rs 20,000 which may extend to Rs 50,000 or both fine and imprisonment.
