Out of these 2392 SHGs, 1875 were will get Rs.10,000 each, while 517 Rs.25,000. Mahila Samaroh organized by Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM) was attended by a large number of people, mostly women.

While addressing the huge gathering, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “BJP government is determined to empower women and strengthen their foothold in the country. It is indeed a historic moment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focusing on the development and uplift of rural women of the country. Development of urban, semi urban and rural areas is the prime objective of the present government. Assam government too is thinking on the same lines. It is aiming at development of all the 33 districts of the State of Assam.” He further assured that no eligible name would be deleted from the NRC draft list which is going to be published on July 30.

“It is just a draft list. Do not be panic stricken. Do not apprehend or lend ears to rumours. Ample time will be provided for claims and objections post NRC draft publication. I am there for the people and it is my duty and responsibility to provide shade and shelter to the eligible persons,” the Chief Minister added to say. He also asked all the SHGs to work well and perform brilliantly so that they can avail more such opportunities in the future. Just see that the funds are utilized properly. Keep your work updated and accounts clear,” Sonowal said.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Finance, Health and Family Welfare, PWD, Transportation and Development, said a host of schemes would soon be launched which include provision of old age pension to all above 60, family pension to those unmarried daughters of each State government employee after the death of her parents and provision of Ayushman health cards to poor families. “The amount provided under KMSA will increase up to Rs.5 lakh. The previous government granted only Rs.5000 in five years. The scheme of old age pension will be launched on October 2, 2018. BJP government is keen to develop both Barak and Brahmaputra Valley,” he added.

“Free distribution of textbooks up to 12th standard, cancellation of admission fees and other facilities which are being provided to the poor families were but a distant dream for them during the reign of previous governments. Rs.500 crore will be sanctioned soon for the development of road in Barak Valley,” said Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. He also said that there is nothing to fear and apprehend about NRC draft list which has been scheduled for publication on July 30 i.e. Monday. In his welcome address MLA Dilip Kumar Paul said in 70 years no government has taken such a unique and out of the box scheme to empower womenfolk.

“Women are more efficient than men and thus we should provide platforms for their uplift, empowerment and development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi historic take on ‘Triple Talaq’ made life easier for Muslim women. He is taking some serious and concrete steps to empower the women of the country. Women should be self-reliant, self-dependent and self-sufficient,” said Dilip Kumar Paul. Later, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with other dignitaries launched the Assam Forest Online Revenue e-Procurement Sale and Transit System portal http://assamforestonline.in which shall be the forest online revenue e-procurement system in Silchar.
