Construction workers stage protest in front of Cachar Deputy Commissioner Office

Silchar: Construction and other unorganized sector workers or labourers are facing a lot of problems. In this regard, Sodou Assam Nirman Shramik Union (All Assam Construction Labour Union) and CPI (M-L) Liberation, Cachar district committee, staged protest demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar on Thursday before submitting a memorandum addressed to the Labour Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Dr S Lakshmanan. They have demanded that proper steps should be taken to control the steep rise in price of essential commodities, Neurology department be opened at Silchar Medical College and Hospital and deletion of names of genuine citizens should be stopped from NRC list.

Some other demands include pension of construction workers be increased to Rs.7000, declared projects of Construction Workers Welfare Board should be implemented immediately, exploitation of workers be stopped, pension amount of retired pensioner worker be released at the earliest and daily wage of construction worker be fixed at Rs.500 per day immediately. The compensation money from LIC for deceased workers is not given and so they have demanded an answer for this. A copy of the memorandum, signed by Haidar Hussain Choudhury, district secretary, CPI (M-L) Liberation, Cachar district committee, Silchar and Ashim Nath, secretary, district secretary, AICCTU, Cachar, Silchar, has been sent to the Labour Commissioner, Assam and Assistant Labour Commissioner, Silchar.
