More Skeleton In Rohingya's Cupboard

Special Correspondent

Silchar: More beans have been peeled off how a Rohingya, Alam Hussain Mazumder, all the way from his native land of Myanmar, entered India 12 years ago through Karimganj border dodging past BSF and the second line of defence and safely made a place for himself at Haflong, masquerading as a healer and dealer in herbs to cure all diseases. From there, he came to Banskandi village, 15 km from here, and with money accumulated he purchased a plot of land and built a house which he subsequently sold off. As a healer and herbs dealer, he frequently visited Bhagadar Betukandi village near this town and got closer to Ajijur Rahman Laskar and also quite intimate to him. He in fact got shelter and hospitality in the house of Ajijur Rahman.

Ajijur Rahman was so impressed by Alam Hussain that he married off his only daughter, Resna Begum, to him. Until Alam was arrested in a joint raid by Assam Rifle and police, he knew him as a man from Brahmaputra Valley with no one by his side. At the time of raid at his house, Ajijur Rahman, now the father in law of Alam Hussain, managed to slip away and absconded. Another person who also made his escape good was Hasan Raja Mazumder of the same village who helped the Rohingiya to use the legacy data of his deceased father Ambar Ali Mazumder for being enlisted in NRC.

As the police was in hunt of both Ajijur Rahman and Hasan Raja and fearing worst, both surrendered before the Officer in Charge of Sadar police station, Dipu Mani Goswami, today. Both of them narrated before the police their meeting with Alam Hussain Rohingya and all that happened. It was confessional statement about the crime they have committed. In fact, Ajijur Rahman could persuade Hasan Raja to project Alam Husain as his brother and use the legacy data of his deceased father who has only a daughter, married off. After arrest and interrogation, both Ajijur Rahman and Hasan Raja were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here which remanded him to 5 day police custody.
