Hailakandi: Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli reiterated her commitment to bring governance to the doorsteps of Hailakandi residents. Reviewing the status of rural development schemes and programmes under the five development blocks lasting more than four hours at Manipur Bagan under South Hailakandi development block on Tuesday, Jalli said governance should be about the people and solving citizens’ problems.

The new Deputy Commissioner chose to hold the review meeting in South Hailakandi, which is plagued with backwardness and infested with extremist problem. On its southern side lies the Assam-Mizoram inter-state boundary which is at the row of border dispute between the two States. Making reference to the rural development plans on the anvil, Jalli said the downtrodden in the society and the poorest of the poor masses will have to feel the impact of governance, stating that those are the groups at the centre of her development agenda.

“It’s time we gave governance back to the people. They are the real people whose lives should be touched in many great ways and this is what we are planning to do. We will bring governance to their doorsteps, “ Jalli asserted, adding that innovativeness in technology services would be put in place to achieve the objective.

The new Deputy Commissioner said the administration would continue to undertake in-depth review of PMAY-G, MGNREGA and entire rural development schemes and programmes as well as pension related schemes at the block development level. “What we want is that people can come and solve their problems at the block level instead of coming to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, as we have assured them of action from our end, “ she added.

People-centric and development oriented will be her sole mantra, as Jalli firmly believes that with development, peace cannot be far behind. “Both development and peace have to go hand-in-hand. There are no dearth of pro-poor schemes of the state and central governments, including flagship programmes. The only thing is to ensure that the fruits of development percolate down to the grassroots level nay the poorest of the poor and for this proper and timely implementation is what is required right down from the block development to gaon panchayat level, “ she asserted.
