Strategic Action Plan for adolescent empowerment to be held in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: A day-long district level stakeholders meet cum workshop on preparation of a Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for adolescent empowerment will be held in Hailakandi on September 19.

UNICEF in collaboration with the Social Welfare department is mapping the impact of national and state-specific government schemes and policies for adolescent empowerment and protection in 17 districts of Assam, including Hailakandi.

“Based on the mapping of schemes, a Strategic Action Plan (SAP) would be formulated with social and behavior change communication (SBCC) component for empowering adolescent girls and boys and ending child marriage in Assam, “ said an official of the district administration.

Following the formulation of SAP, UNICEF in partnership with MAMTA-HIMC will provide mentoring support for the district level adaptation and implementation of SAP.

The partnership will ensure developing a district plan of action in line with the state strategic plan for adolescent; putting in place a sustainable mechanism for guiding the plan of action with adolescents’ participation in the process and paving the way for knowledge, skills and support of community members on empowerment of adolescent and bringing an end to child marriage.

Meanwhile, to facilitate the district level implementation, a district coordinator has been placed at the Office of District Social Welfare, who will also provide technical support to the concerned departments related to SAP.

A 14-member district level joint task force on women and children has been constituted headed by Deputy Commissioner as chairperson and District Social Welfare Officer as member secretary last month. Registration for the meet cum workshop to be held at the Circuit House will start from 10 am.
