“Let’s resolve to make Silchar ‘Swachh and Sundor’. People of this town should come forward for making it a garbage-free town”, said Laya Madduri, at a department-cum-citizens meet held at Banga Bhawan on Friday. She urged upon all stakeholders, members of NGOs, organizations, establishments to actively participate in it. Swacch Sundor Silchar will be launched on July 14 at Gandhi Bhawan here. A pilot project will be carried out in which 2,500 families will be taken into account.

SLRM has emerged as one of the most comprehensive and sustainable waste management system. It makes a paradigm shift in the way garbage and stray animals are viewed in the society. The garbage is viewed as a resource which will generate employment and income for a large number of people. Similarly stray animals are also utilized to convert organic waste into useful resources while simultaneously providing them shelter and food.

The district administration is actively working with the foremost expert on SLRM C Srinivasan to evolve a sustainable and employment intensive plan for waste management of Silchar. It needs to be however emphasized that citizen’s active participation, involvement and feedback would be the most crucial aspect of entire project.
