36th Abhiruchi Sports Day celebrated across Assam

GUWAHATI: The 36th Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated throughout the state today. The main function was held in Guwahati which was attended by first Arjuna awardee Bhogeswar Baruah, former Minister Kamala Kalita and Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Dharmakanta Mili.

September three is the birth day of Bhogeswar Baruah and every year the day is celebrated as Abhiruchi Sports Day. The day’s programme was started with mass jogging which was flagged off from Chandmari fly over. Later Group Dance and Mass PT competition were held at the RG Baruah Sports complex. The prizes of different competitions would be distributed on September 7.

The results of different competitions: Mass Jogging: 1st Kaliram Barua Girls’ High School, 2nd Kamrup Academy Higher Secondary School, 3rd Maharshi Vidya Mandir (Lalmati), 4th Bethani English School. Highest participants: Arya Vidyapith Higher Secondary School. Mass Jogging (Institution): 1st SAI, Guwahati. 2nd Munchuria Kung fu Academy, 3rd Guwahati Kho Kho Coaching Centre.

Group Dance: 1st Sudarshan Public School, 2nd Mahrshi Vidya Mandir (Borsajai), 3rd Mahrshi Vidya Mandir (Lalmati), 4th San Francies School. Mass PT: 1st Sudarshan Public School, 2nd Rajgarh Girls High School, 3rd Rising Star School.

From Lakhimpur

The Abhiruchi Sports Day was observed in North Lakhimpur on Tuesday. On this occasion, the North Lakhimpur regional unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) organized community run. The event kicked off from the Swahid Bedi premises of North Lakhimpur town at 6am. It was inaugurated by President Award recipient teacher Babul Chandra Chutia. Lakhimpur Masters of Athletics, Veteran Sports Association, Lakhimpur Cricket Association, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) NCC cadres, Lakhimpur AASU general secretary Dhanmoni Dutta, North Lakhimpur subdivision AASU assistant secretary Sarat Baruah and the members of North Lakhimpur regional AASU took part in the programme, informed regional president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Gohain.

From Demow

The Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated in Demow Public Playground on Tuesday with a daylong programme. As per the schedule, the programme started with a mass run which was flagged off by Kushal Dowari, MLA of Thowra constituency. The Flag was unfurled by Manuroma Morang, Demow Circle Officer. The flag of Demow Handball Club was unfurled by Jadab Changmai, Working President of Demow Handball Club. A felicitation programme was organized where the players and the sports organizers were felicitated by Demow Handball Club and then the Handball matches of both boys and girls in juniors and seniors categories were organized in Demow Public playground. In the prize distribution ceremony Anil Kumar Dey, Retired Principal of Demow Higher Secondary School, Naranath Chetia, Retired Principal of Demow College along with other dignitaries were present.
