Assam in semis of Junior Hockey

GUWAHATI: Assam girl’s team stormed into the semi finals in the National Junior Girls Hockey (B Division) Championship at Kallom today. The side in a well contested quarter final defeated host Kerala by 2-1. Milkha Surin and Martina Jharia scored one goal each for Assam in the game.

The match saw both the teams play out a goal-less first quarters, but it was Assam Hockey who struck twice in the third quarter through MilkaSurin (33) and Martina Jharia (35) to take a firm lead in the crucial encounter. Kerala Hockey tried to make a come-back in the match but could only score once in the 55th minute through Revathy I Nair, as Assam Hockey defended well to secure a 2-1 win.

In the semi-final Assam will face Bhopal on Friday.
