GUWAHATI: Odisha thrashed Assam by seven wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Cricket tournament tie held at Cuttack today. Assam, who displayed good performance in the other games in the competition, today bowled badly, otherwise it could have been a different story.

Invited to bat, Assam lost wicket on regular interval but still managed to put fighting total, 142-9, in their 20 overs. Sibsankar Roy, who is in good touch this season, once again played a responsible knock which helped Assam to build a fighting total. Opener Pallav Kumar Das (8) and Sarupam Purkayastha (12) failed to provide good start in the innings and middle order too collapsed as Riyan Parag (13), Amit Sinha (1), Wasiqur Rahman (12) all failed to contribute good score with the bat.

However Sibsankar, who came into bat at number three position, balanced his innings nicely and contributed 47 runs on the board before got out. The batsman faced 32 balls and he hit severn boundaries and one six. Jitumoni Kalita was the other batsman in the team who bat well in the match. Jitumoni , the second highest scorer, remained not out on 31 (20) and there were two boundaries and one six in his innings. Pappu Roy (4-21) was the chief wrecker for Odisha.

Later host reached the target in 16.5 overs losing three wickets. Biplab Samantaray (49) and Anurag Sarangi (43no) scored most of the runs for Odisha.
