Assam's Puja Basumatary Hungry for More Medals

GUWAHATI: She gave the first gold medal to Assam in the third Khelo India Games here today. But Puja Basumatary, the judoka from Langhin of Karbi Anglong district, is still hungry for more success.

After the medal-winning performance at the SAI Sports complex, the judoka in her first reaction said: “I am happy with the performance. But I want more medals from national and international meets and I am ready to work hard.”

It took nearly 30 minutes before Puja arrived in front of local media after attending the medal ceremony. She was still sweating and showed little tiredness in her face which was quite natural. But the level of her determination is praiseworthy.

Talking to the media persons after her event Puja today said, “I am happy to have won a gold medal. However, my happiness is doubled as mine is the first gold medal for the State in the 3rd edition of the Games.”

Puja Basumatary also gave credit to the state judo associations for reaching the podium in the Games. “Coaches and the other senior members of the association helped me a lot when it comes to training. I take this opportunity to give them thanks.”
