GUWAHATI: Rode on all round performance Assam beat Sikkim by four wickets and registered their fourth consecutive victories in the Vijay Hazare Cricket tournament in Chennai today. The highlight of the game was five wickets haul by Pritam Das (5-34) and three half centuries which were scored by Denish Das (53), Saahil Jain(61no) and Kunal Saikia (69).

Elected to bat Sikkim piled up a fighting total, 245 in 50 overs, thanks to a nice century from Robin Bist (120, 109 balls, 4X11, 6x5). Robin came into bat when Sikkim were 24-2. He got good support from Varun Sood who contributed 50 runs on the board. Once it looked like that Sikkim were heading for a hug total as the duo on the fourth wicket added 148 runs in quick pace.

However when Pritam broke the partnership on team's total 233 it was a one sided affair as the right handed pacer ran through the innings. The bowler today picked up five wickets in 9 balls and forced Sikkim to end the innings 245.

In the run chase Assam faced a little trouble during the early part of the innings as they lost three quick wickets in the form of Pallav Kumar Das (19), Sibsankar Roy (1) and Gokul Sarma (19). But two junior players Saahil Jain and opener Denish Das proved with bat that they were now matured enough to take the pressure. There were five boundaries and one six in Denish's innings while Saahil hit four boundaries and two sixes during his not out knock. Kunal Saikia, hit seven boundaries in the game, was also good with the bat. Kunal and Saahil made a brilliant partnership, 106 runs, on fifth wicket which pushed Sikkim out from the game.

With this win Assam collected four points and are in the second place in the table with 16 points. Uttarakhand (16 points from 4 games) are on the top spot because of better run rate. Only one team will move to the next round from this group.

In the last game Assam will face Mizoram.
