Former FIFA referee Nagendranath Barman passes away

GUWAHATI: Former FIFA Referee and sports pioneer Nagendranath Barman passed away on Thursday morning. He was 88. Apart from FIFA refree, Barman was also a volleyball national referee, state sports pensioner, life member of Gauhati Sports Association and Gauhati Town Club. Barman was associated with several social organizations and prominent clubs like Maharana, GTC etc. He was known as the first Assamese sports writer for football, volleyball, badminton, basketball and carrom. He left behind his wife, three daughters and two sons.
