Inspired by Assam's Hima Das, Akshay Boro aims high after success at Khelo India Games

GUWAHATI: The home crowd rejoiced when Akshay Boro won silver in the U17 Boys 200m with a timing of 22.39.

Coming from Chaygaon in Kamrup district, the 16-year-old called Assam's Hima Das his "idol."

He said, "Her win in 2018 gave me inspiration to pursue this sport, and I asked myself – if she can do it, why can’t I do it as well?"

“Just like Hima, I also want to win medals nationally, and then internationally. My only aim is to represent India at the highest level one day, which is the Olympic Games," Boro added.

The youngster from Assam started with football and later shifted to running. He has been training at the SAI Centre, Paltan Bazar in Guwahati for the last two years, according to media reports.

Around 6,800 athletes are expected to participate in the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games. The athletes will take part in a total of 20 sports with lawn ball and cycling being new additions to the Games. The opening ceremony took place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
