Ranji trophy: Assam struggling to avoid defeat

GUWAHATI: Assam scored 109-3 in their second innings at stumps on day II in the Ranji trophy tie against Team Rajasthan in Jaipur today. The side is still trailing by 108 runs.
In reply to Assam first innings total 108 Rajasthan today bowled out 325 runs in the first innings. Ranjeet Mali, the wrecker-in-chief, bagged 5-62. It was his fifth five-wicket haul in first class cricket. The other wicket takers for Assam were Mukhtar Hussain (2-94), Jitumoni Kalita (2-94) and Arup Das (1-58). M K Lomror (123, 222 balls, 4X18 and 6X1)) scored century and S Khan (71) also contributed well with his bat.
Assam, conceded 217 runs first innings lead, made poor start in the second innings too and lost opener Parviz and Sibsankar without opening their account. Two batsmen departed on two consecutive deliveries in the second over of the innings. Other opener Rishav Das (10) also failed to stay on the wicket for a long period.
But Gokul Sarma and Kunal Saikia put good resistance in the third session of the day and helped Assam to consolidate their position a little at stumps. Both Gokul and Kunal remained not out on 64 (4X11) and 21 (4X3) runs respectively when the day’s play came to an end and the duo added 64 runs on unbroken fourth-wicket.
