GUWAHATI: The good work of the bowlers went in vain courtesy to the poor performance from Assam’s batsmen in the Ranji trophy tie here today. In reply to Services’ first innings total 124 Assam today bowled out for 162 in their first innings. Later the visitors finished the Day II scoring 130-4 in the second innings.

Earlier Assam started the day from their overnight score 81-3. Gokul Sarma and Riyan Parag started the innings cautiously. But Gokul (39) couldn’t stay long as he departed when Assam were on 92. Riyan, who scored the lone half century till the second day of the match, played a very uncharacteristic innings and showed a lot of patience on way to build his 66 runs innings. Entire Assam team faced 386 balls in the first innings and 156 of those were played by Riyan alone. He also hit seven boundaries and two sixes. Among the bowlers of Services Diwesh Pathania (5-58) came out with the best figure and he got good support from Shadab Nazar (3-44).

Services finished the day 130-4 in the second innings and they are now leading by 92 runs. Rajat Paliwal remained not out on 36 runs while Mumtaz Qadir contributed 39 runs on the board. Arup Das picked up 2-27 and other two wickets were shared by Roshan Alam and Pallav Kumar Das.
