GUWAHATI: Sports arenas in the city are active again. National-level tennis players of the State returned to the court today for the first time after the lockdown was imposed to combat COVID-19. As a part of the decision of the All Assam Tennis Association (AATA), the national level players started training at the Chachal Tennis complex this afternoon. Initially, the AATA selected 18 players for the beginning of training and 10 of them turned up on day one.

Talking to The Sentinel, the secretary of the AATA Ankush Dutta said, "As per the government advisory, only national level players have been allowed in the training. We are also following the standard operating procedure (SOP) sent by the All India Tennis Association."

He also added: "The players started their practice today maintaining social distance and coaches were advised to monitor so that all the guidelines are strictly followed." It may be mentioned here that sports activities have come to standstill because of the lockdown imposed in March. The athletes were forced to stay at home for nearly two months and now they are raring to go.
