GUWAHATI: Former cricketer Paragjyoti Kalita succumbed to COVID-19 yesterday at GMCH in the city. He was 53 years old and left behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

Paragjyoti represented Assam in the Vijay Merchant Trophy (1982-83), Cooch Behar Trophy (1983-84, 84-85 and 85-86) and C.K. Nayudu School Tournament (1982-83). He also represented East Zone in the Inter-Zonal Cooch Behar Trophy in 1983-84, besides representing Nagaon district in the R.G. Baruah (U-15) Inter-District Cricket Tournament and J.K. Baruah (U-19) Inter-District Cricket Tournament.

It may be mentioned here that earlier day before yesterday another State cricketer Subhabrata Dutta Roy, popularly known as Subir, passed away in Silchar due to COVID-19. He was 65 years old and left behind his wife and two sons. Subir started his career in 1972 with Club Cricket and went on to play several Inter-District Cricket Tournaments, including Nur Uddin Senior Inter-District Tournament from Silchar, besides representing Assam in the Cooch Behar Trophy and C.K. Nayudu School Tournament. He was also a member of 1987 State Ranji Trophy team and narrowly missed entry in first XI.

Assam Cricket Association mourned the death of cricketers. In a release president Romen Dutta and secretary Devajit Saikia expressed deep sorrow at the demise of both the cricketers.
