Campaigning for Lok Sabha seat in Manipur concludes

Imphal: The campaign for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Manipur concluded on Tuesday evening. Eight candidates are in the fray for the Outer Manipur (reserved) seat.

On the end of campaigning for April 11 polls, Congress spokesperson I. Hemochandra said the people has to choose the BJP’s pledge of implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or the development promised by his party. He asked the BJP to clear stand on people injured in a police crackdown during an indefinite curfew, imposed after public protests against the Bill.

However, the BJP candidates refrained from making any comment on the issue. The NPP candidate T. Kipgen said a complaint has been lodged with the Election Commission on reports that an armed group has threatened people of dire consequences if they didn’t vote for the BJP. The Tengnoupal district magistrate has ordered closure from Tuesday evening of gates at international border touching Myanmar. The Assam Rifles troopers are also patrolling the border to prevent any unwanted elements from entering Manipur ahead of the polls. (IANS)
