Manipur CM inaugurates women’s markets at Tamenglong and Senapati District Headquarters

Guwahati: The newly constructed women markets at Manipur’s Tamenglong and Senapati District Headquarters was today inaugurated by Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh on Tuesday. He also laid the foundation stones for different projects.

The two storied Rani Gaidinliu Women’s Market is constructed by Police Housing Corporation as the work agency with a budget of Rs 10 crore, has a sitting capacity of 200 women vendors.

Chief minister, N Biren Singh was accompanied by minister of Agriculture, V. Hangkhanlian; Revenue minister, Karam Shyam; Education minister, Radheshyam; vice chairman, Planning Board and MLA S. Rajen; chief secretary of Manipur, Suresh Babu; DGP of Manipur, LM Khaote; managing director of MPHC, Christopher Doungel; advisor to CM, Rajat Sethi; secretary to the CM, N Geoffrey and personal secretary to CM, S. Rajen Singh.

In his speech as chief guest, N Biren Singh stated that with the inauguration of the market complex today, he has been able to deliver his promise which he had made last November

While appreciating for the warm welcome accorded to him, the CM also said that he was trying to fill up the gap between hills and valley. He also made promises to construct market sheds, provide water schemes and blacktop the Tamenglong- Khongsang road

N. Biren Singh further stated that Tamenglong was a remote district, where earlier when a person gets sick, they would usually die on the way for treatment, but now Chopper services being provided so that sick people could avail treatment on time. He further mentioned that the MST service was also initiated so that poor people can travel to Imphal or anywhere elsewhere in the State.

Expressing his regret over the incident that took place recently at Kaimai and Kaiphundai where some persons with vested interests have looted the truck drivers despite government initiatives to help the people, Singh, urged anybody with weapons, whether they belong to the military or underground groups to come up for talks with the government for solutions to their grievances instead of looting the drivers,

The CM further made an appeal to the people of Tamenglong to come and meet him at Hill days or “Miyam Gee Numit’ at Imphal while adding that the hill and valley should be together.

In his presidential speech, local MLA, Samuel Jendai conveyed his thanks to N Biren Singh saying that “Under his able leadership, the government has initiated many developmental works in Tamenglong.” He also asserted that because of Biren’s endeavours, Rs 90 crore has been sanctioned from the centre as an extra fund for Tamenglong under the Hill Area Development fund while stating that Tamenglong is also the first district to receive IFARD scheme.

“We do not bark like mad dogs, but work on what we had promised. The present BJP government led by N Biren Singh is focussed on bringing equal development to Tamenglong district,” Samuel Jendai said.

Later, the Chief Minister along with Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and high ranking officials of the State Government arrived at Senapati District headquarters at around 11 am by helicopter and inaugurated Apfii Saliki (Mothers’ Market). N. Biren Singh also inaugurated Free Diagnostics Services under NHM and laid the foundation stones of transit accommodation for doctors and teachers for Paomata and Senapati, water supply schemes for Karong and Senapati, 100-bedded hostel and upgradation of eight rooms of Residential School, Bendramai, Model Residential School for Senapati District headquarters and Mini stadium at Senapati, public ground.

Speaking at the function held at Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Rikhumai Taphou attended by a large number of people, N. Biren Singh said that soon after the present BJP-led State Government was sworn-in on March 15 last year, it decided to construct a women’s market shed each at seven hill district headquarters of the State under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering womenfolk

While stressing that his Government has set a target to complete all the projects except the water supply schemes before the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2019, N. Biren Singh, urged upon the work agencies and contractors concerned to maintain quality in construction and complete the projects within the stipulated deadline,

Maintaining that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan, ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ is the guiding vision of the State Government as well, N. Biren Singh said that the new Government would demonstrate its performance to the public through visible accomplishments instead of indulging in rhetorical speeches.

The Chief Minister informed that around 2.77 lakh families, who come under the Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC) database, would be covered by Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) - Ayushman Bharat in the State while needy families who are not included in the SECC would be benefitted through Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT).

Singh further added that after the Manipur State Transport was launched last year, six new routes connecting Imphal with more towns of hill districts had been added to Manipur State Transport passenger bus service a few days back, and his Government is actively considering to reintroduce Imphal-Dimapur MST bus service soon.
