Manipur confers its Prestigious Translator’s Award on International Translation Day

The Thiyam Ibochoubi National Award, 2018, one of the most prestigious translator’s award in the state was conferred to Ningthoukhongjam Dilip Kumar of Agartala, Tripura on Sunday. The award carries one shawl, a citation and a cash award of Rs 10,000.

Manipur Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh gave away the award. The award ceremony was held on the occasion of 122nd birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat and International Translation Day held at Manipur Hindi Parishad of Old Assembly Road in Imphal on Sunday.

The noted personalities present at the event were A Shivdas Sharma- Director of Art and Culture; Arts and Culture Minister Jayantakumar; Heisnam Balkrishna and N Dilip Kumar - Director of Information and Public Relations. The award ceremony was organized by the Sahitya Thoupang Lup of Imphal.

Arts and Culture Minister Jayantakumar, while speaking at the event, praised the writers and their constructive role in the society. Furthermore, the minister asserted that translation itself is a big art and is not an easy job. The translator will have to be able to feel the emotion of the words before translating it.

The minister had other good news too for the writers in which he said that for easing the problems of the writers of the State, a guest house of the writers has been planned to be constructed at Wakha of Imphal East. Detailed Project Report has been prepared for the proposal.

The president of the event, director of I&PR, Balkrishna Singh said that writers certainly play a wide role in the society and the different forms of writings and literature help in communicating and bringing social peace and harmony in the world.

Together with eulogizing the role of the writers, the necessity to build publishers’ guild too is discussed by him who is necessary in order to do marketing of the literature pieces.
