Guwahati: Meghalaya has confirmed 3 more Covid 19 cases on Thursday, July 2, out of which 2 are Border Security Force (BSF) jawans. With this, the number of cured patients now stands at 43, while the number of active cases is now 18.

It is to be noted that out of the 3 infected patients, two are BSF jawans from the East Khasi Hills(BSF), while one is from the Ri-Bhoi district. "Three more persons tested positive for COVID19. Two from East Khasi Hills (BSF) and one high-risk contact from Ri Bhoi", Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote on Twitter, informing about the development. With these two, the number of infected BSF jawans in the state has now risen to 7.

Earlier in the day, one more -- a Delhi returnee hailing from Tura -- tested COVID-19 positive. "The Delhi returnee is from Tura and today morning his sample has tested positive. Since his sample was tested positive today, he must have tested positive 2-3 days back. It has been reported that this particular gentleman is asymptomatic. As far as we have seen, he is completely hale and hearty, and has been shifted to the corona care centre to Tura", Al Hek, Meghalaya's health minister, told The Sentinel Digital.

Meghalaya had reported its last COVID-19 cases on Thursday, June 2, when two more high-risk contacts of a positive case from the Ri-Bhoi District tested positive. Meanwhile, as many as 5 jawans from a Border Security Force (BSF) camp have tested positive for the contagion in the state.

It is pertinent to mention here that Meghalaya reported its first case on April 13, 2020. A complete curfew was also clamped in Shillong owing to the virus spread, bringing a complete halt to activities in the capital. Gradually, 12 more people -- the late index patient's relatives, employees, and friends -- were tested positive in quick succession, taking the tally of cases in the state to 13. Subsequently, a large number of cases have been detected in people who returned to the state after the easing of the lockdown restrictions by the Government of India.
