Guwahati: Five more people have officially tested Covid-19 positive Meghalaya on Wednesday, taking the tally of cases in the state to 20, and active cases to 7.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma who took to Twitter at 12:17 am to make the announcement, said that these patients had all returned from Delhi-Haryana, . "They are at the Corona care Centre in Shillong and are asymptomatic. Total active cases in the state as of now is 7", Sangma said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Meghalaya reported its first case on April 13, 2020. A complete curfew was also clamped in Shillong owing to the virus spread, bringing in a complete halt to activities in the capital.

Gradually, 12 more people -- the late index patient's relatives, employees, and friends -- were tested positive in quick succession, taking the tally of cases in the state to 13. After a prolonged period of treatment, the last of the patients of this phase, a woman, recovered from the respiratory illness and Meghalaya was officially declared "corona free". However, the joy was short lived as Meghalaya again reported a new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) case on May 19, a day after 12th and the last patient of the first cycle in the state recovered from the disease.

Meghalaya reported another case of the Covid-19 after a man from the state who had returned from Chennai tested positive on Monday, taking the overall tally in the state to 15.

Meanwhile, ith 6,387 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, India's count of Covid-19 rose to 1,51,767 today, 170 people have also died in the last 24 hours due to the virus. Among all states, Maharashtra has the highest number of Covid-19 cases with 54,758.
