AILAF moves Government on legal aid awareness

SHILLONG, July 2: The All India Legal Aid Forum (AILAF) on Monday stressed on the need to create awareness of legal aid amongst the downtrodden people of the society through media, which is a very important part of the society.

It may be mentioned that the AILAF has been working in this field since 1997 for the downtrodden people by creating legal awareness programme and the forum is always taking care for protection of human rights and legal aid to the people of the society.

Speaking to reporters, general secretary and spokesperson of AILAF, Advocate Joydeep Mukherjee said, “Awareness of legal aid is very much necessary amongst the people and the Forum is trying to protect the Constitutional rights of the ordinary citizen in India, those who are oppressed and deprived in the society.”

He informed that the Forum has also requested the Central Government as well as every State Governments for setting up Human Rights Court in every district and sub-divisions for the speedy disposal of human rights violation cases.

“We have also requested the Centre and State Government to give directions upon the competent authorities of the departments concerned to be more active in protecting the women, children and victims who are facing the crime of immoral traffic, specially in north-eastern region.”

The Forum has also requested the Central Government and the State Government to extend the mid-day meals scheme, which is now up to class-VIII, up to class-X for the ordinary people.

He said, “We have also requested the Supreme Court and also the Central Government to take the initiative for setting up a circuit bench of the Supreme court in the north-eastern region for the purpose so that a large section of people in the region could be benefited.”
