Shillong: With barely five days left for the last date for filing of nomination to the two parliamentary constituencies in the State, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to decide on the name of its candidates. The BJP State unit has forwarded the names of Arnes Mawrie, Lakhon Kma, B Paslein for the Shillong seat and KC Boro, Rikman Momin, DD Shira and Thomas Sangma for the Tura seat. However, the National Election Committee (NEC) of the party is yet to endorse any of the forwarded names, confirmed president of State BJP Shibun Lyngdoh during an interview with The Sentinel on Wednesday. Asked on the reason for the delay, the president stated that he is unaware of the reason, although he conceded that time is running out.

Besides, the forwarded names, the name of Sanbor Shullai and Alexander Hek are also doing the rounds in spite of the fact that they have not applied for the party ticket. Going by the political insinuations, it is unlikely that the BJP will field a candidate from the Tura seat and it is trying to make a point with the central leadership to have a candidate from Shillong seat. Since the disappointment in the last Assembly elections, the BJP has been lying low in the State. It also failed to field any candidate in the just concluded district elections.
