A REPORTER

SHILLONG: The Health Minister of Meghalaya who is also a State leader of the BJP, AL Hek said the final decision on the issue of a common candidate for the upcoming MP election must be taken by the coordination committee of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).

Speaking to The Sentinel, Hek said, “We have seen that the United Democratic Party (UDP) has come out with its own common candidate in Jemino Mawthoh. However, the decision should be taken at the coordination committee.”

He informed that the BJP has an intention to contest the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.

“We are contemplating the idea of fielding a candidate however the final decision will be taken by the party central command in Delhi,” he said.

When asked, if the party already has a candidate to contest the polls from Shillong and Tura seats, he said that till date the party has not taken any decision on this matter but the decision will be taken by the party in Delhi. He also said that if all the partners within the MDA government take their own decisions on the common candidate issue then the idea of a candidate from the MDA for the LS polls will not be realized.
